Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have a classroom of over 30 amazing third graders! Our school resides in a difficult neighborhood in Chicago where students deal with a broad range of daily hardships. They are interested in learning, excited for new experiences, and love having teachers that hand out hugs. I strive to make learning fun to keep students interested and wanting to come to school every day. When students are involved in their own learning, they become more invested in the process as a whole.
My Project
Students in third grade are in a critical developmental period of their lives. It is extremely important for classrooms to stress the message that kindness is important. This is achieved through reading lots of books where students can put themselves in the shoes of the characters, discuss kind behaviors, and see examples of kindness in the world.
I would love to have a set of books in my classroom that focuses on the themes of kindness and acceptance.
I specifically chose books that have been highly recommended for this purpose. I would utilize these books as read alouds and discussion starters. Throughout the school year, my class could refer back to the books when problems arise.
