Help me give my students super fun ways to explore science with safety goggles, experiments, a lady bug life cycle set, a weather station and an anatomy kit.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The students in our school all come from various backgrounds and have different abilities. All of the students in my class are considered delayed, including cognitively, developmentally, physically, and socially. I have students who do not hear English at home, students who are non-verbal, and students who speak very well. I have students who can write sentences and students who are working on pre-writing skills. All of my students need additional help with academics, social skills, and life skills.
To keep my students excited and wanting to come to school, we do many hands-on activities and crafts associated with our curriculum.
We also teach cooking activities, and life skills such as loading and unloading a dishwasher, sweeping, wiping tables, sorting, washing, and folding.
About 83% of the students at our school receive free or reduced-price meals. We also have a large portion of English Language Learners (18%). We have a very transient population in our school serving the homeless, students living in motels or extended stays, and many apartment complexes.
My Project
We are requesting safety goggles, experiments, a lady bug life cycle set, a weather station and an anatomy kit. My students will be thrilled to learn about and watch ladybugs go from the larvae stage to adult ladybugs with the Insect Lore Ladybug Land! We will earn about science safety before completing the experiments in the books while wearing the safety goggles.
We will use the weather station to learn about weather patterns, predicting the weather, and dressing appropriately for the weather.
The anatomy sets will help my students learn about the different body systems with a hands on approach. We will use the balance scale, weights, and magnifying glasses to explore our school and the world around us.
Thank you for helping us become super scientists and changing the lives of my students!
