I teach in a low-income, high-poverty elementary school in Wyoming. Many of my students come from single-parent families and are often faced with challenges both in and out of the classroom. Many of my students are eligible for free or reduced-price lunch at school and most take advantage of the free breakfast offered. In spite of these overwhelming challenges, they are excited about being at school each day.
My students are intelligent, and creative.
They are eager to learn and they love to move. They love to play games. They are friendly, talkative, and want to know as much as they can about the world around them.
When they walk through the door of my classroom, they know they are in a safe environment. I focus on what they can do, what they want to do, and what they want to know. My students love it when we dig deep into a topic. I cannot control what happens at home but I can guarantee that when they are in my classroom, it is a safe, positive learning environment.
My Project
These cards, pictures, and math manipulatives will help my kindergarten students improve their language and pre-literacy skills. The sequencing cards will help them learn how to put stories in order and learn what happens first, next, and last. We will use the picture cards to talk about what we see and develop strong communication and language skills. The pattern blocks not only help my students strengthen math skills, but they help with sequencing and conversation as well.
Your donation to my classroom project will help young, struggling learners develop strong literacy and communication skills.
These materials will provide for hands-on practice in skills specifically targeted to help my students succeed. You will help them learn sequencing, improve their oral language skills, and improve their abilities to see patterns in everyday objects.
Hands-on, kinesthetic learning will help my eager learners gain the skills they need to become strong learners and readers.
