This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Currently, I am teaching in a small school school district school in a rural community but the students are very mighty. Our school has only one art program but lacks the resources to accommodate the students who range in grades PreK-4th.
I am in desperate need of art supplies for my students.
I absolutely love working at this school with these awesome students. Being able to watch the kids grow from little ones and go on to middle school is quite a wonderful experience. I get to really know the students and their families. This year I've been lucky to work with the best students in the county in such a warm and loving environment.
My Project
Art is very much needed in most schools. Art supplies are quickly used up and the school's budget does not cover the art classes. My students love creating art and taking it home. Art isn't just a "pretty", it also helps to develop motor skills, language development, decision making, etc. These supplies will be used to empower my students through art in other subjects because art matters.
Students will use the markers to write their word problems and show their work with a pictorial model.My students will use the watercolor pencils and sharpener to create diagrams and visuals such as land forms, order of planets, and the water cycle.
In social studies, they will be able to use the brushes, oil pastels, and watercolor paint to create pictures in their writing entries.
Using materials that they don’t get to use everyday will change how they learn because they’ll be using a variety of resources to solve their problems or create projects throughout our curriculum!
