My students need a more focused whole-group learning area away from their desks. The rug will anchor us and the mobile whiteboard will allow me to move the anchor charts to small group areas.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach up to 34 inquisitive and unique 5th grade students at a Title I School in a low-socioeconomic neighborhood. 25% of my students are English Language Learners. During our day we do several small-group instructional lessons to help encourage all of my students to engage in learning. For many of my kids, this is their time to shine. They feel safer asking questions and taking chances on giving answers during this time. I want to help them feel confident during whole-group time as well!
My Project
These materials will help my students get out of their seats and become more engaged in learning. We'll be able to create anchor charts together in a whole-group setting on the floor that can be moved to be used as references in small-group. We can build on these charts as we move through different texts in ELA, or to do number talks in math, and even in comparing phenomena in science. From there, we can use the tabletop easel and sentence strips to focus learning even further.
I believe my students will benefit immensely from being able to get out of their seats and move around even more in the classroom.
Having a large rug and portable drawers will help separate the area and keep all supplies close at hand. I want my students to feel comfortable in my classroom. School shouldn't be boring, and nobody wants to sit in a seat for 6 hours. This project will help me make school more engaging!
I'm excited to use these new materials and techniques I have learned at various trainings this summer in my classroom this school year.
