This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students have severe and profound intellectual disabilities and they come from varied backgrounds. Majority of my students live in a low-income household and can't afford any extras that we may need at school. Due to their disabilities, my students don't participate in the general music, art and PE classes so we do activities within our classroom.
In order for my students to learn, we do hands-on activities when learning new skills, they need to be able to use a variety of textures.
All of these projects require varied art supplies that I have been providing for my students. We do a wide range of activities that involve different types of art supplies. The main things my students need are adapted paint brushes, finger paints, yarn, pipe cleaners, pom poms, the fat crayons, feathers, glitter, etc. All of these things provide different tactile needs for my students.

My Project
My students enjoy visiting the sensory room we have created at school. Some of my newer students need different activities and experiences provided that are not already in our sensory room. The crocodile wall mounted sensory board will provide a fun learning experience to increase their fine motor abilities. The floor tiles provide different textures for the students to feel with both their hands and their feet. The touch and feel matching set will be great for my students with visual impairments who enjoy different textures. The lights will add a visual aspect to our sensory room for all of our students to be able to enjoy.
