This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am a high school mathematics teacher in a low income, rural school district. My school serves over 1200 students. Some of my classes are jam-packed with as many as 35 students for whom I provide meaningful and rigorous instruction daily in the midst of maintaining strict covid protocols to make sure that me and my students stay safe.
My students are bright, motivated, and inquisitive learners.
They are eager to learn new things and open to tackle all learning opportunities put before them if provided the right tools. They are hardworking and dedicated pupils who desire to be successful.
My Project
These calculators will help my students complete their assignments. Currently we have a shortage of calculators and an abundance of students. My students have to share calculators in order to complete their assignments and this can be difficult when giving a test or an independent assignment in which they need to do quietly. Some of the calculators that we do have are worn out from daily use, and are inoperable. They have not been replaced in years. These calculators will be a help to me in class as we learn different mathematical concepts throughout the school year.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
