Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students love soccer! They watch it, read about it, study the players and teams, create fantasy leagues, and of course play it. Not all students can get involved in a game when you have 50 students participating in P.E. and only two goals.
We are a Title I school with just under 400 students.
We're a multi-generational school with a large Hispanic population. We set the bar high at our school and we have brought in No Excuses University, which informs students about college at a young age.
My Project
There are two ways we will be utilizing the materials.
In Physical Education, whenever given the option to select a sport to play for P.E., our students select soccer. We only have two goals and this doesn't allow all the students to get involved, touch the ball, or have an opportunity to score. These pop up goals will allow us to create mini games to get more students involved.
We will also use these goals for our Soccer Teams. We have a primary and an upper grade soccer team that practice and play games after school. I am assistant coach for both teams and have loved being a part of this program. These goals would also allow us to run a variety of drills out at practice.
These goals will be very meaningful to our students because this project is centered around something that they are passionate about: soccer.
Their love for the game is so evident, but these goals will truly allow them to gain more experience. They will sharpen their soccer skills and more importantly build their teamwork skills.
