Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students live in a disadvantaged area of our city, where 97% of my students get free or reduced-price lunch. Several of my students live in a homeless shelter. Many come from migrant families where they wake up before dawn to get ready for school because their families work in the fields. Many students rely on the breakfast, lunch, and weekly snacks provided by the school as their main source of solid nutrition. Even with all of their struggles, they are in very high spirits. They give you everything they have and don't ask for much, only love and attention. Their smiles every morning light up my heart and the hearts of those around them. The energy they express and their enthusiasm for learning are amazing. I could not have asked for a better group of students. They are the absolute best kids around. It is my mission to be their greatest supporter.
My Project
My students need weekly TIME For Kids magazines. These resources will help my students with their literacy skills while also exposing them to current and cultural events. These magazines will help to make reading and writing assignments fun! My hope is that exposing students to these cultural events will help smooth their road not only to high school graduation but to a university!
These magazines will improve my classroom because my students will now be exposed to informational texts.
It will change the lives of my students by preparing them for the Common Core State Standards and future grades to come.
