I need your help providing my students with up-to-date, research-based teaching strategies from the Get Your Teach On conference so that I can meet their diverse learning needs!
Whether I'm welcoming a class of 22 English Language Learners or 22 Gifted/Talented students into my heart, my goal is always to meet my students where they are.
Last year my 4th grade class family benefited from phonics instruction, memorable mnemonic devices in math, lots of partner games, opportunities for movement, and connections to their heritage languages.
I read, researched, and borrowed ideas to help me be the teacher they deserved. These students unlocked their own capacity for knowledge and excitement for learning, and, by the end of the year, we were a close-knit international family.
This year, my class of staffed gifted learners benefit from creative challenges, leadership opportunities, social-emotional awareness, and help managing perfectionism and anxiety.
Kids are kids, regardless of labels or test scores. And all kids are deserving of a teacher who is excited about learning and excited about teaching!
My Project
When a teaching conference comes to my home town of Orlando, the inner lifelong learner in me gets excited and sets a goal to attend! By attending the Get Your Teach On conference, I am eager to learn research-based lesson planning strategies that will engage my students. I'll be able to attend specific sessions meant for 4th grade teachers like me to collaborate and share student engagement ideas. Last, from photos I've seen of GYTO conferences on social media, there's a positivity and a passion for teaching that, because I've taught for 18 years, I think will renew my spirit!
I am looking forward to the inspiration and collective purpose of being surrounded by fellow teachers who become "summer students" who want to improve their positive impact on children.
Teaching is hard work and heart work. Part of being an effective teacher is being a curious, lifelong learner, and attending the Get Your Teach On conference will help me achieve that!
