Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My wonderful & wise owls are from NYC, and come from low income families. They also have special needs and accommodations to be made to assist with their academics, emotional and personal (like skill) needs. My students work extremely hard to overcome their challenges. My owls are creative, clever, motivated, and enjoy learning through actions and hands-on activities.
From the time I greet every student entering into my room, to our goodbyes, they persevere and I am focused on their potential and growth.
I want to be able to assist them in any way that I can! By supporting them in a creative and positive classroom, I am hoping to inspire and motivate them to reach their full potential.
My Project
The materials and supplies that I am requesting for my students already have a "home." In other words, I know exactly where everything will go. We just need your help in getting everything through my door! The timer will be used so that my students know how much work time they have left, as it is not good practice to cut off students without warning. It acts as a great visual aid, and not a verbal distraction. The donations to this project will help to improve my students' understanding of and competency in authentic, meaningful reading to understand a text fully. By implementing the Reader and Writer’s workshop model, my students will begin to see themselves as true readers, authors, and illustrators. We will use these materials to aide us in the process of becoming life-long readers. As the teacher, I have done extensive research and reading on the workshop model in the primary grades. Yet I truly need your support to make this a reality.
School is where the students see structure and expand their knowledge, and your donations will allow my OWLS to become the learners that they are persevering to be.

Students will be able to simply focus on the academic material at hand, and be fully engaged in the learning. My students will use these materials to explore their ability to read and write. Your generous donation to my project will improve my K-2 Special Education classroom by building stronger readers and writers. This will change my students' lives for the better. They will be engaged and feel success at an early age!
