This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Do you remember wanting to hear your favorite books over and over again?
My classroom is made up of a variety of learners in a high needs school.
Many of my students have never been to school before. I believe my most important task is to help my students develop a love of school and a love of learning. I have found that my students love listening to read alouds and books by Mo Willems are often requested 10-15 times per week.
My Project
These collections of Mo Willems books will change my students lives for the better by allowing them to hear their favorite author as often as they'd like. Read alouds are extremely important in early learning. Research shows that before children can begin reading on their own, they must have heard at least 500 stories (or the same stories that many times). By adding these high interest books to our classroom I can ensure that my students develop a love of books and hear as many stories as possible on a regular basis.
These resources will be extremely useful not only for my current class but for generations of young learners.
This collection of books will allow me to engage my young students in regular read aloud and help them develop a love of reading. This is extremely important at a time when the value of testing is stressed so heavily. Developing early literacy skills will ensure their success in later learning!
