Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a first grade teacher in the Bronx. My incoming first graders and I would like to help the young Hurricane victims. We would like them to have much needed school supplies such as pencils, notebooks,writing paper and basic art supplies such as: crayons, construction paper, glue and scissors. I want my students to be a part of helping these young victims during this crisis. It will give my students the opportunity to realize that they are part of a bigger picture in this world. They can make a difference even if it's outside of their immediate communities. I want them to experience the sense of caring for others in times of great need, and knowing they can make a difference in someone else's life miles away.
This year we are beginning a school wide initiative regarding character development. What does it look like? How do we show it is being taught? I believe that giving my students the opportunity to help children who survived Hurricane Katrina is an important step toward the beginning of character development in my first grade class. The materials we need to help the children are: pencils, notebooks, writing paper, crayons, construction paper, glue and scissors.
