Help the Whole Child! (Emotional and Social Needs)
Help me give my students the resources to help them work through their emotions. So many of my students deal with stressful situations at home and do not understand how to deal with those emotions.
The students at my school are bright, eager to learn, and compassionate about their individuality. Each one loves to read and is unique. It is my job, as the media specialist, to provide opportunities for them to grow through access to books. The majority of my students come from low-income families and they do not have access to a variety of books.
Our school's belief is that every student deserves a quality education in an environment that supports emotional, social, cultural, and educational needs.
My Project
I am a school media specialist in a primary school (4K-2nd grade). This year, our school focus will be on helping the "whole child" by providing an environment that supports our students' emotional, social, cultural, and educational needs. I currently have only a few books related to social and emotional needs in our media center.
The books that I have chosen will be used by me and classroom teachers, for example, as read alouds each morning to start the day.
Whether a student has come to school angry, happy, sad, etc... there will be a book that he/she can relate to.
