Ms. Johnson from Tallahassee FL is requesting professional development through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
I need these tables to assist in the creation of our professional development learning center.

When you enter our classroom, you will see a room of resilient children who are trying their best to be kind and loving. The reading levels in our classroom range from kindergarten to fourth grade. Some of my students have had wonderful school experiences, while others have struggled. However, when they enter our classroom we work hard to put our previous struggles aside and learn.
These students come to school to learn and grow; we work hard to instill a drive to go far in life.
My student body consists of children with English as their second language, struggling readers, students with multiple learning styles, and gifted children. The state provides our entire student base with free breakfast and lunch to ensure our students have the nutrition and energy to learn. We attend a Title I school, meaning that a majority of my students come from low socioeconomic situations. This puts my students already at a disadvantage compared to their counterparts at other schools in our district. We work hard to bridge the gap in their education because we all know education is what can change a life.
My professional development journey is a multi-step process. I work at a charter school. This means we have to look outside the box to find our professional development opportunities. Some things cost a lot. This comes directly from a charter school teacher's paycheck. I want to make sure that any Professional Development classes we take can be done in safe and comfortable space. We need tables for our learning center in which to practice these skills before we use them in our classroom. My dream is to have our learning center set up to incorporate lessons that focus on a table each for Science, Social Studies, Math, and Reading. I hope to make this dream come true in the near future.
The biggest challenge is trying to figure out how to use what you have learned in professional development.
As teachers we do not want to look like rookies in front of our kids. I think that practice makes perfect. I want to build a two stage learning center where myself and other teachers can practice all the things we are learning. Think mock classroom comes to life. I want to make this available for all educators in my school to utilize. First step is to take the class. The second step is to practice and become familiar with the materials that we will will use later to educate our students.
My students and the rest of the students at the school will benefit from this professional development center. Teachers get to practice what they have learned even after the professional development class is done.
The classroom will be available to practice with manipulatives and other resources to help teachers prepare for teaching new content and new styles. Having a prepared confident and teacher makes all the difference!
