Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are an Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT) classroom of 23 students, about half of whom receive special education services. Our students are eager to learn and need the resources in order to be successful in their studies!
Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with most of our students receiving free lunch.
My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them for the rest of the day!
My Project
Teaching fourth grade math is a serious exercise in organization. Each new skill comes with its own set of cards, manipulative materials, tools, or supplies. This grant will make our classroom math center an organizational hub of the classroom creating student-centered learning environments in our room. In addition to requesting the tools of organization, including a new storage shelf, and storage bins, this grant will also enable students to become more independent when choosing math manipulative that they need to use.
These tools will organize our classroom math center in a way that will make it accessible for our students and manageable for our classroom.
Over the years, I have collected clocks, calculators, rulers, pattern blocks, fraction tiles, flash cards, base 10 blocks, tangram tiles, card games, and a million other hands-on tools of math. Without a first-class storage system, these great tools can only be accessible when I dig them out. This grant will make math tools and games available year-round at our math center, so students can self-select and independently practice the activities where they think they need the most help.
