We are from a small school (student population 140 9-12). Our softball field is covered in snow for at least the first month of the season, so we have to practice in the gym. We sometimes have to drive fifty miles to a lower location so we can play home games.
Even with these setbacks, we have had tremendous success.
We have qualified for the state tournament and placed in the top 4 for 14 of the last 15 years.
As the head coach I can't help with the weather; however, one thing we struggle with is signals. If I can give verbal signals instead of hand signals I, as well as my players, think it will be more successful.
We come from a small rural school in Idaho that has a great tradition of athletic success. We have been to the State softball tournament 14 out of the last 15 years.
We actually only average about two weeks of outside practice due to the weather.
Even with the limited amount of practice time, we have been successful. If I can switch from hand signals to verbal signals, I feel that my players will be able to understand me and make us a little more successful. If we are having fun, working as a team and doing the small things winning takes care of itself.
