Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 9th grade Physics and Engineering in a project based learning public charter school. My students come from diverse backgrounds and learn in an inclusive instructional environment. They use ingenuity, curiosity and imagination to apply creative innovative solutions to different problems that surround them.
My goal is to inspire students to become intrigued in engineering and physics and open new doors of interest for themselves in the future where they can surround themselves with limitless possibilities.
Additionally, I hope to provide authentic opportunities for my students to collaborate and learn in a positive and rigorous learning environment.
My Project
My students are working on a project based on aerospace engineering. As a team they will design and construct small scale radio controlled aircraft. These include a number of airplanes, a drone and even a blimp. Each aircraft is designed to complete a mission that will be demonstrated during our school’s exhibition in the Spring. This invokes teamwork, collaboration, and communication skills as well as enhancing their abilities to learn new things. Together in classified groups: Pilots, Airframe, Avionics, and Managers, my students will learn a better understanding of design and execution in their project.
The materials needed include electric motors for propulsion, the associated electronic controllers, an aerial camera, and parts for airplane construction.
