Rural America. Farm lands. A small school district. Approximately 130 students in the entire high school. A self-funded football program. The first football game ever played here was in 2010 when 8-man football was introduced to the state of Michigan. Since then, every season has been a chance to give the gift of this game to the handful of students who are willing to come out and play, despite the hard work, despite the tough schedule, despite balancing school, chores, and football. Despite losing part of their summer vacation. They play because they love the game and because they understand that there is so much more to learn from it than just wins and losses.
My Project
Football is an expensive sport, especially for a small school district that started playing the game in 2010.
Our student-athletes come from rural Michigan, are typically lower-income, but have all the drive and desire as athletes from larger, more affluent school districts.
What we hope to do is provide them with some football gloves, some training equipment, and a few items for helping with the bumps and bruises that are typical with the sport of football.
Items like gloves, athletic tape, whistles, tackling dummies, and stopwatches may seem insignificant compared to some equipment, but it is the little things that can help boost a young player's confidence, or make the difference between keeping ankles safe and secure or risking injuries because of a lack of supplies.
Every donation makes a difference. Every dollar helps the Cougars in their quest to continue playing the game they love.
