Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This project is for my advisory group -- 25 students in grades 9-12 who function like a school family. We meet daily and support one another academically and socially. There are all different personalities in this group -- leaders who are outgoing, leaders who are quiet, students interested in sports, students committed to academics, peer mediators, and party planners. Students spend all four years of high school in the same advisory and become very close to one another.
One of our advisory goals is to learn excellent collaboration skills.
We do this by studying, playing, and planning together. It's truly a joy to watch students' strengths emerge and develop over the course of our time together.
I love their energy, passion and individualism!
My Project
The students in my advisory group love to play games as a way of bonding with one another and for encouraging conversation and collaboration. Every Friday, we have "game day" and it's our favorite day of the week.
Help us move past Uno (though we do need a few new Uno decks) and learn some new games together!
I've chosen an assortment of games that encourage critical thinking, strategy, development of social emotional skills, and meaningful conversation. I'd love to be able to share these with the students and breathe some new life into our Friday bonding routine this year.
