Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school is a tier 1 Title 1 school with very little funding. Roughly 70% of the students at our school are below grade level. The neighborhood is very low income, all students receive free meals, and many students deal with undesirable situations at home. Our school is challenged with many behavior problems and low retention rate. We are currently in the turn around zone due to low performance over previous years and are driven to make extreme changes to help students achieve their full potential.
My Project
The program, iReady is being implemented for this school year and next. Students are required to be on technology frequently, however, I only have 4 headphones that work. This makes it challenging to sanitize them often. It is also challenging for students to focus on their own work and learning. Students also have 45 minute goals to complete weekly for reading and math. A total of 90 minutes. Every day is quite busy, and it is difficult to get all students to complete their goal. With more headphones students will be able to choose their device to work on and complete their weekly goals. They will also focus on their leveled instruction without getting distractions from other elements. They will also be able to clearly hear their lessons that fit their needs and test questions that show growth. This will allow for further academic growth in math and reading as well as create a positive classroom environment. Student frustration will be eliminated while using technology in the classroom.
