Our school is near the center of urban Raleigh, NC. Our school is run by a small and dedicated staff focused on PBL (Project Based Learning.) We have been recognized as a Magnet School of Distinction performing better than our neighboring schools in this urban environment.
Though we have been recognized for our educational successes in an urban setting, financially, our families struggle, so your support would be gratefully appreciated.
As a school within the public system, we get some funding, but it's NC and we do not get the same support as other schools in NJ, NY, etc because our tax base is so low.
As a teacher, I am so proud of the diversity and acceptance our students display. Black, White, Latino, Bi-racial, gifted, challenged, LGBT+ students, etc. all intermingle without incident. We have built a caring and accepting environment. Your support would reinforce our continued success and growth.
As we move from Pandemic-Model teaching to a regular classroom setting, these workbooks will help my students reinforce their literacy skills which have declined for many over the pandemic. This workbook sets up simple writing scaffolds with easy prompts to promote and hone these skills.
Your donation will provide my high school students with a literacy-based workbook to build a portfolio of work, write about their ideas and experiences, to express their lives through their art work.
This workbook includes tons of supplemental information for my special needs students so that their parents will be better able to assist them at home as needed. When art can be such a creative class, this workbook provides a strong foundation of vocabulary, scaffolding for projects, historical and cultural context which is so important to making meaningful expressive works of art.
Additionally, this book helps tie in core content as well. Art teachers know, when we grid, measure, and draw—we use geometry. When we make sculptures—we use engineering. When we mix colors—we reveal information about physics. When we create illustrations for stories—we learn about literature. When we review the styles of art from da Vinci to Banksy—we teach history. When we teach ceramics—we teach chemistry. When we write about art—we strengthen writing skills. When we create works of art, we solve complex visual problems in creative ways. Art is the meeting place of all subjects.
