Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. They attend a diverse, low-income, and high-needs district that strives to help students be successful. As an Itinerant Teacher of the Deaf or Hard of Hearing, my students range in age (Pre-K to 12th grade), attend 22 different schools, and have varying levels of hearing loss. I also teach in a self-contained high school Deaf/Hard of Hearing classroom. Even though it may be difficult at times to hear their teachers and peers, my students persevere and are natural leaders for self-advocating.

Unfortunately, the district's budget has tightened, making it more difficult to purchase materials for students to learn and engage with.

My Project

My students need hearing aid batteries, wax guards, and cleaning tools to maintain their hearing aids. Many of our students' families cannot afford hearing aid batteries/supplies and usually rely on donations or school support for them. All of my students (both self-contained and itinerant) would benefit from a color printer to help create more authentic visual aids!

In my self-contained room, we are constantly making vocabulary posters and language charts, so the printer/ink, additional charts, markers, and stikki clips would help keep this going!

Our current Expo markers are dying out from so much use that we could benefit from more, as well as a new eraser. Our room also does not have a pencil sharpener, so this would be helpful to have pencils and colored pencils ready to use!
