Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are my heroes. My students are battling life threatening illnesses. One has end stage renal failure. All of my students are from low income households. My students are the most inspiring people I've ever met. My students are brave. I work with students in grades K-12 who have serious medical issues such as cancer. All of my students come to school ready to learn. It is a joy and a privilege to work with these students. Each day, they try their best in school while battling cancer or waiting for an organ transplant.
I work with students in grades K-12 who have serious and life-threatening medical conditions.
Some students have life-threatening conditions such as cancer. Other students are on the transplant list waiting for an organ transplant. A few students have been hit by a car or were in a car accident. Most of the students experience pain on a daily basis.
All of my students are very brave and a pleasure to work with. Each day, they try their best in school while battling cancer or waiting for an organ transplant. In addition to their serious medical problems, all of my students reside in high poverty .
My Project
My students need an iPad mini to help them participate in student centered learning. Because they are seriously ill and often stay inside their home and in the hospital, an iPad can help them access the outside world and current events. They need the iPad case to protect the iPad. With an iPad, the students will be able to use hands-on learning in their daily language arts, social studies, science and math lessons. Students can study and read the daily news online. Students will be able to use online tools to graph math equations and use online manipulatives to better understand math. Students can create student centered projects with this tool. In addition, they can access student centered online educational programs that meet their individual learning needs.
Special needs students will be able to access educational programs and create projects, publish and print them.
Even when they are ill and receiving medical treatment, the students still attend school. Using technology brings excitement to learning. Since my students are under a great deal of stress and most of the students have chronic pain due to a serious medical condition, integrating technology into our academic lessons is necessary. Technology helps students create reality-based math and science projects. They help to brighten a sick child's day! The families love to see the language arts, math and science projects that we create in our class. They cherish the precious memories.
With an iPad, students can access online educational tools that they need to help them access student centered learning. We create research presentations on multiple topics. This helps to develop students' critical thinking and analysis skills. We study math, technology and science concepts. Students will create sophisticated writing and research projects that we print out, publish and share with others.
