Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students all have Autism and struggle to learn new information and concepts. They require specialized, visual, and hands-on learning materials in order to be successful. My school cannot afford to help me receive these materials.
I teach students with moderate to severe autism in a low income area.
My students all have reduced receptive, expressive, and pragmatic language skills and need specific materials to target these areas of weakness. Using materials that are highly motivating, visual, hands-on, and interactive helps my students build their language skills. It is expensive to purchase educational games/activities and my school does not have the funding needed to provide the resources necessary to teach our students.
My Project
Building language and social skills is challenging for children with Autism. These games/activities will allow me to utilize motivating materials to target and build these language skills. All the games/activities focus on building vocabulary skills, inferencing skills, and social skills which are very difficult for my students. In addition, playing games helps my students work on turn-taking and interacting with each other.
Many of my students have little or no exposure to games at home.
Games are great resource to help students work on turn-taking and interacting with others in a fun way. These educational games also make it motivating to practice the language skills we are working on in the classroom.
