Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students need cultivating activities to challenge them! These students are Jr. Scholar students. They are high achieving and highly motivated. They constantly want to know more, do more, and take things further. They need the rigor.
Many however, have lacked a well built foundational knowledge of Science from grade school.
These are the kids that NEED to have newer and higher level activities and experiences thrown at them to challenge their ideas, and cement others.
I want to give them activities and experiences that enrich their lives for years to come. I want them to have the full experience and be all they can be to stretch their minds.
My Project
Students will learn about flight principles and do various fun, supporting activities. This will give them a foundation before they actually fly themselves.
Students and teacher will get to fly in a safe, controlled environment with an instructor.
Instructors will demonstrate Science principles in the simulator to give the students a feel for what and why things fly. Vocabulary terms will be discussed.
Students will visit the IFLY Indoor Skydiving facility. They will work in groups in STEM labs and participate in the physics of flying activities.
Students will continue activities, a packet supplied by the IFLY organization, and research when they return to the classroom. This will be a field trip that students will never forget because it is very hands-on!
