The 145 students in my classroom and laboratory are fully involved in their learning and eager to explore the phenomena we call science. The numerous students and staff that visit my room on a daily basis are always excited to see what we are exploring or creating during that class period. On any given day you will see students working collaboratively to answer and ask questions. Working methodically to ensure they are using their time to their advantage.
While students only have 40 minutes a day in my room, the hard work, and sounds of laughter shared makes each class period feel like a family.
To ensure that each day students have choice in seating to keep their natural curiosities ignited while their sense of community is continuously bonded through the memories made in class.
My Project
This project will help foster a individualized classroom setting, allowing for students to use flexible seating choices throughout the class hour.
This flexible seating includes, a low to the floor table, cushions, yoga chairs and rug which will help stimulate students to work at the level that is most comfortable and conducive to their learning styles.
During this science class students are often asked to work in teams, partnerships and independently; Having a place to meet with your team that is at their comfort level will allow the learning experience to be the most optimal that it can be.
Chairs are not a one size fits all, and neither are the students in my classroom. With this flexible seating I will be better prepared to meet the individual and differentiated needs of all my students.
