This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come from low-socioeconomic backgrounds with most of them living in single-parent households. A lot of them come to my class hating math and ready to give up on school. Although they are are in 9th and 10th grade, many of them come to me on level with a 5th or 6th grade math student. In addition, a good portion have learning disabilities such as ADHD, dyscalculia and dyslexia that make being in a class that much more difficult.
Even with all of these challenges, my students still loving learning and getting a chance to feel smart for a change.
They love having hands-on and engaging activities that allow them to work together in teams and show-case what thought about.
My Project
If my project is funded, students will be able complete their interactive notebooks well and join in on whiteboard activities in class which have had an incredible success rate in my class in engaging students.
These office supplies allow my students to have on brightly colored graphic organizers, glue and dry erase markers for whiteboard activities.
These colored organizers are important because students (especially the ones with ADHD) focus better on the organized material and retain the information. The glue allows them to stick their organizers into their notebooks so that they can reference past notes. It will also provide dry erase markers which will allow my students to use whiteboards in class, which are wonderful tools in my classroom for teamwork activities, remediation, formative assessments and scavenger hunts around the room for practice.
