Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a Title I School in a low socioeconomic neighborhood. My students come from low income families, broken families, and families who are not involved in their child's education, because they have to work a tremendous amount of hours to be able to put food on the table. These factors don't stop my students from loving school and showing up in class ready to learn every day.
I am proud to say that I have received the greatest opportunity to teach incredibly amazing and motivated students.
My Project
This project will reach every student in our school.
Every math teacher will use the Phone Parking Station.
Every day at the beginning of the class, students place their phones in their assigned slot.
I have tried asking my students to put their phones in their backpacks while in classroom. This strategy works only for a few minutes! The students are constantly either checking their phones or they are thinking about an opportunity to do so. We need to make sure that students give up their phones for the entire period.
Using the phone parking stations, student would not have access to their phones as long as they are in class. This would eliminate one of the major causes of distractions in today’s classrooms.
We need the phone holders to stay away from distraction during the time of instruction.
