Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students here at our middle school face many challenges in their day to day life yet come to class with a positive attitude ready to learn. The majority of our students are of Hispanic descent, many who have only been in the United States for less than three years. The poverty level of our students' families is heartbreaking. During virtual learning, I have been personally delivering goodies and supplies to many of my students. Some of their living conditions are so poor that I find myself in tears.

We are doing our best to support the young Hispanic students facing today's challenges by providing them with the education and materials needed for them to succeed.

We are preparing to bring our students back into the school building and my hope is to meet them with the resources that our school budget does not allow for. I want to show the students that the world cares about them and believes in them.

My Project

Students at our middle school do not spend enough time outside staying active. Our Physical Education educators have done their best to encourage students to be active, but I have to admit that it is difficult to make a student do anything without a computer. I am requesting soccer balls and pumps.

My students need to get outside, breathe fresh air, and be active.

The sports equipment I am hoping to receive will be "sold" in our Student Store. The students will "purchase" the equipment with their PBIS points earned for following our school guidelines and keeping the Washington Way of being respectful, responsible, and safe. I hope these items will help keep the love of sports and outdoor activity alive in our students' hearts. The students will be able to keep these items to practice their athletic abilities throughout the school year and through the summer.

It may seem simple to provide sports equipment to low income students; however, this basic sports equipment will give the students a sense of pride. Owning their own sports balls allows them encouragement to stay active and stay for something other than gangs and illegal activities.
