Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Each student deserves a classroom where they can learn. My students are diverse learners from Humboldt park, a neighborhood on Chicago's west side. They are inquisitive, creative, and never stop learning. Each student has unique abilities and growths that need to be met, both academically and developmentally. Being a diverse learners' teacher means thinking outside the box when it comes to setting up a classroom to ensure that each student is set up for success. Every student is different and it's important to have opportunities for them to learn in a way that is best for them.
My Project
With CPS going to a hybrid model students will attend in-person classes two days a week and will engage in remote learning three days a week. Students will be in a pod system where they have limited interaction with other students in order to return to school for in-person learning. Because of the restrictions put in place for COVID-19, students will not be able to share materials they normally would share, such as pencils, erasers, etc. Additionally, tables will need to be wiped down frequently, as well as frequent hand sanitizer. This project will allow students to each receive a pencil bag with pencils, a pencil sharpener, an eraser, an individual bottle of sanitizer (to prevent spread on a communal pump), and index cards for individualized flashcards, as well as a kick band for each student's chair since sharing chairs is no longer an option. It will also allow for extra sanitizer to refill their personal bottles, wipes to disinfect the tables, as well as a digital tablet and pen for the remote days to provide modeling in a clear way online.
