My students need level-specific access to Scholastic digital and print news magazines. Each student will be paired with the magazine appropriate for his or her individual reading level.

My Students
My incoming third-graders are a wonderful mix of general education students, English language learners, and intellectually disabled students. I also work with students who need help with reading comprehension. The students at my school are always looking for a variety of unique ways to grow as learners.
Teaching is not just my job but my passion.
I am looking forward to getting to know my new students. I am equally eager to support their individual needs. I know it is going to be a great year!
My Project
In third grade, we spend a great deal of time teaching students the ins and outs of reading and answering questions about non-fiction text. However, there is often a dearth of subject-appropriate material at their level. Scholastic magazine provides students with opportunities to have regular digital AND print access (an important part of our Virginia standards!) to weekly news magazines that cover a variety of topics. In addition to learning to recognize and utilize text features and enjoy what they are reading, these magazines come with weekly lesson plans and - even more importantly - an opportunity for students to practice their text comprehension through a variety of questions about the articles.
