My students are the reason that I teach. They are the reason that I love what I do. They are dedicated, curious, and hard working individuals who are constantly striving to better themselves and their community. My students are leaders, innovators, creators, artists, engineers, athletes, and so much more.
My students experience a great deal of success, but they also face a number of challenges.
Many of my students come from low income families and work long hours after school in addition to helping with the care of their siblings. Some of them are still learning to speak English while others lack stable homes. My goal, when students walk into my class, is for them to feel welcome, supported, and cared for because every one deserves the opportunity to learn and grow.
My Project
ASUS Chromebooks are multifunctional tools that will have many uses in my classroom. Because the courses I teach are writing intensive, one of their primary functions will be just that. Chromebooks allow students to interact with their writing and their peers' writing in all new ways. This includes publishing their work on a variety of platforms as well as editing and commenting on their peers' work. Having a set of ASUS Chromebooks in my classroom would enable us to interact with the writing process in an effective and engaging way while also enhancing their digital literacy.
Donating to my project will provide all students, regardless of their background or obstacles, the resources they need to succeed.
The other primary use for the ASUS Chromebooks will be accommodations. A number of my students are English Language Learners (ELL) and students with disabilities. With the limited amount of available technology at my school, it can be extremely difficult to acquire the appropriate resources to accommodate assignments for a variety of students. Having a set of ASUS Chromebooks would enable me to quickly and effectively differentiate and accommodate lessons, assignments, and notes. Using the Chromebooks, ELL students can choose to read articles in their native language; students who struggle with reading and reading comprehension can have a text read aloud to them. And, those with writing difficulties can dictate or type up their work.
I want each and every one of my students to be successful in my class. I want them to be the best versions of themselves, and having the right tools is a great start.
