Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a school in Portland, OR that has a Spanish Immersion program. My 29 third graders are very special to me! They are bilingual in English and Spanish. They are fun, energetic, caring and very smart. They come from diverse cultural and language backgrounds. Our classroom is a safe space were they can learn, challenge themselves and thrive.
Every morning they enter the classroom happy and eager to learn.
They love read alouds as well as read independently.
My Project
I am so excited to start a new school year with my third graders. Our school is moving to a reading workshop model where students need a variety of books that they can read both independently and instructionaly. The book boxes (bins) will help tremendously in building their reading stamina. Children already have a love for reading, but having a way that they can select the books they love and store them in their special box will help greatly with managing 29 third graders.
Your generous donation will make a great impact in my students' reading life.
Each student will have their own reading box that will help them become independent readers. They will select the books they love the most, they will read in a variety of ways, and they will know where to put the books when they are finished. These book boxes will help them develop the reading skills they need to succeed.
