Help me give my students the opportunity to explore through hands-on experiences. The goal is to create a "Makerspace" in which they will be able to use different STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Architecture, Mathematics) tools to grow!
First and second grade are a very integral time in a child's education. I teach first and second grade Gifted & Talented students. 65% of our school is comprised of gifted students, and I have the pleasure of working with 121 of them. They are enthusiastic about their learning, and they need to be appropriately challenged.
My students are a good mix of wonderers, creators, thinkers, and questioners.
They are always trying to get questions answered and they almost always ask "Why?" to everything. These curious, creative children are both fearless and supportive. As students of the 21st century, they deserve the tools to engage in our world and the opportunity to thrive as young students.
My Project
These materials will help me create a space for my students in which they can explore and bring their thoughts to life. The use of hands-on materials like blocks, LEGOS, and planks will allow the students to bring their inner engineering and architecture thoughts to life. The use of the Osmo and Sphero will provide them with the opportunity to explore technology and learn communication and collaboration.
It is proven that students are more engaged and interested in their work when they are given a choice and the opportunity to explore.
This "Makerspace" will encourage students to grow both creatively and expressively with the use of various tools. My students will gain confidence while also developing critical thinking and problem solving skills.
