Hello! I am the Reading Teacher at a small rural, Appalachian Mountain Pre-K through 8th grade school. Most of the students on my caseload are living at (or below) the poverty level and qualify for free or reduced lunch. The students who come to my classroom are struggling readers, usually several years behind their grade level in reading. Reading is the key to their success this year, and in their future lives. If they cannot read effectively, they cannot reach their full potential in life. I need your help bringing these students up to grade level. Success breeds success: once each student becomes a successful reader, they have the tools to succeed in other areas.
My struggling readers would greatly benefit from individual copies of "Six-Way Paragraphs" by Walter Pauk. This request is for the Intermediate level which will benefit my middle school students. They have worked hard to be able to call words, but they continue to struggle with language and vocabulary skills. These workbooks teach basic skills necessary for reading non-fiction content area materials. These books work, because they help teach the critical thinking skills my students need to be successful.
If I have these workbooks, I will be able to give ten of my students the support they require to learn how to analyze the paragraphs that they read. This skill will be essential in their other areas of study such as science and math. These children work hard. They deserve the best that I can give them. I need these tools to help them be successful readers and be able to function at grade level.
Each book has 100 lessons. We meet daily for � hour sessions. What we do not complete this year can easily be carried over to next year's studies. These materials have the potential to significantly impact these students' reading skills. This will help each of them reach their full potential in life.
