Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Have you ever tried to learn a subject in class but couldn't stay focused or on task? These are the daily struggles that students with disabilities face while attempting to learn in the classroom.
My students are all excited to learn about science.
Even though they have learning disabilities, they come up with amazing answers to difficult problems. They are able to achieve just as much as students without disabilities but they just need to be taught in various ways. Our school has over 50% of its students who are economically disadvantaged. Coupled with financial hardships and a disability, most of my students fight an uphill battle in high school.
My Project
My students need a Tablet to use technology to help them access the curriculum. I've learned throughout the years that many of my students with disabilities (especially students with autism) learn best when you incorporate technology in the classroom. Instead of verbally telling a student what the electromagnetic spectrum is, show them visually or have them feel the warmth of infrared radiation! A tablet is a great way of helping students with disabilities access the curriculum because it is visual and tactile. Students are able to view scientific terms at their pace and they are on task much more than if they were to read the same content in a book or through a lecture. I plan on allowing my students with autism to use the tablet's apps to mirror my science lessons.
Your donation and support of this project will help my students in ways traditional teaching cannot do.
Tablets have been proven to help students with disabilities access content that they otherwise would not obtain. Please help make a difference today!
