In less than one week I am looking forward to welcoming 34 4th grade students to my classroom in south San Jose, California. We are a public school in a diverse area where a large majority of our students are dependent on free or reduced lunch.
Fourth grade is a big jump for these kids.
They are not used to having 10 more kids in their class. They are not used to less recess time and more work! We will learn though and we will have a lot of fun doing it! Kids all learn differently though. Not every kid can learn sitting at their desk. Research shows that flexible seating helps to make a successful.
Our class would greatly benefit from some flexible seating options. Please help!
Not all students learn the same way! Some have a very hard time sitting quietly in their desk and working. That is where flexible seating comes in. Flexible seating helps them work to the best of their ability and do their personal best. This year I have 20 boys and 14 girls set to come in and take on 4th grade. Nine of these students I had last year in third grade and I know what they need! They are kind and loving but they also need lots of movement and can’t sit still in one place for very long. It is not their job to adapt to my teaching. It is my job to adapt to their learning. Flexible seating is one way to help me help them succeed. Please help them be the best students they are able to be.
