My students need a sensory room filled with furniture and materials, coping tools, and other items to help them find a calm space to self-regulate and refocus in order to learn!
This school is filled with energetic, loving, and caring students who believe school is a safe place to learn and be themselves. We have a significant amount of students in poverty. They look forward to coming to school and being with supportive and loving staff. They have big dreams, but need the resources to help them get there!
Sometimes our school struggles to get the resources we need to help our students regulate their emotions.
Help them find a way to create connections with staff and peers in a healthy way!
My Project
Our students come to school excited to learn, but sometimes they need a space to self-regulate, reset and refocus. These furniture items, materials, and coping tools will help us create a sensory room in the school building. This space will help our students get back into the classroom ready to learn.
We want this space to be a place where the students can come and feel safe and calm.
It will be a peaceful place where they can find a variety of tools to self-regulate, reset and refocus in order to get back into the classroom to learn.
We are requesting donations for a tee-pee to give our students a quiet space to crawl into and hide for a few minutes to practice coping tools such as mindfulness and deep breathing. We would like a lava lamp and glitter lamp so our students can zone out for a little while and momentarily distract their minds in order to find their zen and relax. We would also like a variety of material coping tools so our students can use their five senses and self-regulate. These items include stressballs and other fidgets. We also put a wooden shelving unit with colorful bins to store some of these items. We are also invisioning a giant bean bag chair that our students can sink into or jump on if they are feeling strong emotions.
These sensory furniture items and materials will allow our students to get back to their baseline so they can get back into the classroom ready to learn!
