My students need money to cover the cost of the bus to get to our field trip destination. This is a once in a lifetime experience for most of our kids!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a Title 1 school in Dixon. My students are an amazing group of kids. I had the opportunity to teach some of them in 1st grade 3 years ago. Now we are navigating through 4th grade together.
Most of our families are low income and language learners.
However, that does not let them stop them. They work hard and are excited to learn. They love to try new things and are huge fans of hands on experiences. Even in 4th grade they still LOVE station activities.
They truly are the sweetest group of kids. They get excited about the little things, and try to make me laugh at least once a day. We have a great classroom community. Everyone accepts each other and works well together. I am thankful to be their teacher!
My Project
In 4th grade a majority of our social studies standards are related to California history. Allowing my students this once in a lifetime opportunity to pan for gold and make leather pouches to hold the gold will help my students make a connection to history. There is no better way to understand something, than having an actual hands-on experience.
What a wonderful experience for my students to feel proud of themselves for "discovering" gold.
With all the hard work my students do in class they deserve a chance to experience a day of learning outside the classroom. I do not want my students to miss out on the opportunity or feel badly because they are not able to afford the trip.
