The students in my school come from diverse backgrounds including bilingual families and low-income families. My school is a Title I school.
Middle school is a tough time for any person, regardless of their home circumstances.
But when home life isn't great it can be hard for a student to focus, or even stay awake at school. Motivation is hard, and tackling the typical middle school day can be stressful. Many students at my school struggle with coping skills, handling strong emotions, and learning because of certain obstacles in their lives.
The curriculum I teach is basic life skills, which includes communication, nutrition, cooking, and sewing (among other things). I'm passionate about educating my students about how to become strong, independent, lifelong learners.
My Project
I would like to go to the Ron Clark Academy 2-day Educator Training. Ron Clark is one of the biggest reasons why I decided to teach. I met him back in 2012 and was inspired to keep pursuing my goal even though I had many obstacles. I would love to see these master educators in action and incorporate some of their practices into my classroom and school.
I believe it is important to get into other classrooms and see what is working for students from diverse backgrounds!
RCA is known for their revolutionary teaching strategies and helping grow students into successful lifelong learners. I want to help engage my students in not only my content, but their education as a whole. I work at a school for the arts and want to incorporate more music, hip hop, dance, and writing into my curriculum.
