Help Second Graders Improve Reading with Dav Pilkey Books
My students need 16 Dav Pilkey books including a set of Captain Underpants books, the DVD, & a Dog Man plush animal to get my students excited about reading and help them improve their skills.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students love to hear a good story! Many of them don't have any books at home or anyone who can read to them. They need to hear enjoyable stories at school. These Dav Pilkey books and the Dog Man plush will be a great way to get my students excited about reading.
I have a wonderful class of second graders.
Our school is located in a high immigrant, low income community in California. The parents of most of my students never finished high school. Many of my students will be the first ones in the family to finish high school and hopefully college, too. Most of my students are English learners whose parents are unable to read to them in English. I have several students with learning disabilities, and I also partner with a third grade buddy class and mainstream several students with learning disabilities into my all inclusive classroom.
My Project
I love introducing my students to memorable characters and enjoyable books. We are asking for 16 books by Dav Pilkey which are exactly what I need. This project has 9 different Dav Pilkey books including a set of 8 Captain Underpants books and the Captain Underpants DVD along with a Dog Man plush.
I plan on introducing my students to the books by Dav Pilkey by reading one of the picture books each day to my class.
Then we will start reading a chapter of Dog Man each day during story time after lunch. After we finish the Dog Man book, I plan on reading the color edition of The Adventures of Captain Underpants book to the class and handing out the other 8 copies so my students can follow along.
My students are going to love hearing the stories and getting to hold the Dog Man plush during story time. They will also be very motivated to have the Dog Man plush sit on their desks as a reward for good behavior throughout the day. I also will encourage my students to choose their favorite Dav Pilkey book and practice reading it until they feel confident that they can read the book aloud to the class. The funny easy text found throughout these books will also greatly benefit my students who are learning English.
My students love good stories. I know they will enjoy listening to The Captain Underpants book along with the 8 different Dav Pilkey books. I try to make my Language Arts lessons exciting so all students can be exposed to the curriculum. I want my students to be able to listen to, enjoy, and practice reading these wonderful stories. I want this project to help inspire my students' imagination and positively influence my students to stay in school.
