Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The COVID-19 pandemic has been extremely challenging for all of us, especially for my students. Many have been locked away inside and forced to sit in front of a computer monitor for hours. Our Title I school is home to many students who are eager to learn and are inspired by hands-on, kinesthetic learning that takes place in our garden. Our school includes 96% minority enrollment (51% hispanic; 40% Asian). A full 87% of our students are eligible for free (77%) or reduced cost (10%) lunch. Now that students are starting to return to school, we all need our school garden more than ever!
My Project
Our garden was magical! The COVID-19 pandemic turned this magical garden into an overgrown mess of weeds and dead plants.
I am requesting weed block, gloves, and tools to bring our garden back to life.
We need a way to control the weeds and to give each student their own gloves to protect their hands. For years, our students hunted for bugs, watered, picked weeds, sprouted seeds, and learned to love the fruits and vegetables that they cared for. Our Title I school is home to many students who are eager to learn and are inspired by hands-on, kinesthetic learning that takes place in our garden. We have a lot of work to do and this project will help us bring our garden back to life!
