My students need 8 LCD monitors to replace old failing monitors in our computer lab, and we will use these monitors for math and literacy practice activities daily.
Problem: Our computer monitors are over ten years old and are fading. They emit enough radiation to significantly heat up our lab. Our elementary students struggle to see details and focus on the text or math tasks. Internet fonts are too small to see on our old monitors.
At our school in Seattle we are challenged with about 73% underprivileged, high-needs students, many of whom are recent immigrants speaking languages other than English.
This results in our PTA being small and unable to help fund our school with reliable technology. Our lab serves the entire school of approximately 270 students each week. Students a have a strong desire to learn, even under difficult circumstances. Indeed, they appreciate outside help to our school!
My Project
In our computer lab we keep our students busy using a variety of internet programs designed to build math and literacy skills. We have seen much progress through some great internet venues hosting skill-building activities. Our students will achieve a greater ability to navigate technology and enjoy projects that move them toward successful preparation for middle and high school.
Our school community is small and barely funded, but spirit runs high among people who have learned to make due with what they have.
Your time at this site and your generosity goes farther than you could ever know. The lion's share of our students don't have computers at home, so a positive and progressive experience at school is critical. Thank you for considering some assistance to our public school!
