My students need early reader books, writing materials including Common Core workbooks, step stools, partitions, and supplemental items to support their literacy development.
It is time to face reality: my students' determination to succeed has outgrown our limited classroom library and their outdated writing resources. They need and deserve to have the materials that will allow them to practice the skills they want so passionately to master.
My class is comprised of a remarkable group of 12 students ranging from 3rd through 5th grade.
My students are all living with learning disabilities, ranging from moderate to severe. Each of my students contributes valuably to the class every day, and they are all passionate about their learning and eager to get the most out of their time in the classroom. My school is a tight-knit community in which teachers work toward creating and maintaining an environment of respect, collaboration, and trust. These values are modeled and passed on to students, who exemplify these traits throughout the school day.
My Project
While each student in my class is equally valuable to the learning community we have established, they are all on drastically different academic levels. The resources requested in this project will help cater to each students' individual needs in a variety of ways. For my students who are constantly swinging their legs under their desk because it is too high, the use of foot stools with not only eliminate disruption, but will make their learning infinitely more comfortable.
For my students who become too easily distracted by visual stimuli, a partition will allow them to focus on the task at hand. And for my students who are still working on writing their alphabet, the ability to practice over and over again on a dry erase board will not only save paper, but will allow them to increase the amount of practice they receive. For the students who are working on comprehension practice, a practice book will allow them to take the skills they are learning in school outside of the classroom.
Donations to this project will allow my students to increase their literacy through writing practice, reading comprehension practice, and through more appropriate leveled books for my emerging readers.
My students will find a renewed excitement in their learning and will be thrilled to participate in more engaging activities with their new classroom materials.
