My 6th-grade students from Westwood, NJ are currently enrolled in my Language Arts resource room. Each of these students has an IEP specific to their learning disability. Each day, we share stories about what we've read, books we recommend, and books we want to read in the future!
They are all eager to learn and explore their love for reading!
However, we currently share a room (and budget) with six other teachers so it is difficult to create an appealing, effective classroom environment. Regardless, we make the best of the situation and carry on!
My Project
Reader's Notebooks are a staple in my English classroom. Making them spring to life adds a whole other dimension to their reading life! We, as a class, need your help in getting the supplies to do so. The PaperMate Flair pens will help to make my students' work an immersive part of their learning. Research has shown that organizing notes by color is also an effective study tool! The pencil holders and tape dispensers will serve as additional writing supplies so that each partnership has their own set. This simultaneously creates a predictable learning environment for those struggling with organization.
Creating authentic, meaningful writing is key to learning.
By implementing the Reader's Workshop model, my students will begin to see themselves as true authors and illustrators with work they can be proud of. We pride ourselves on being accountable, successful, and empathetic. We will use these materials to aid us in the process of becoming lifelong writers who embody these very values.
