Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our class motto is "Never Settle for Less than Your Best!" I want my students to become effective communicators who collaborate, expand on their creativity, and enhance their critical thinking skills. I want to prepare my students for 21st century learning, but lack some skills to do so.
I've enjoyed being an upper grade teacher for the past 10 years.
I have always taught at Title 1 schools and I wouldn't change it for anything. It is absolutely the best sparking the interests of 10 year-olds in various subjects while helping them surpass their potential. Since my students are of the video game generation, technology is the ultimate tool that helps me engage them. When I first taught 5th grade in California, the iPad just came out. The school I taught at there was equipped with Apple products which my students used to create projects like vocabulary videos. Some of the videos were even showcased in a local Technology Showcase as well as in the Santa Barbara Film Festival. Half a decade later, the iPad is still a dynamic tool used in classrooms. In fact, my current students have been blessed with some iPads through Donors Choose. However, technology is always changing and becoming more innovative faster than I am able to teach my students how to effectively use.
My Project
I am requesting a Mac mini so I can learn lessons from iTunes U and other professional development sites on how to make the best use of the iPads and other technology within my classroom for lessons, projects and presentations. Before I can teach my students effectively and efficiently, I need to educate myself. I now teach 5th grade in Virginia, but my current school is equipped with PCs that are not as easily compatible with the iPads. A Mac mini and a keyboard would provide me a learning station that has compatible hardware and software with our iPads. In addition, I am requesting a couple of professional development books that would aid in my quest to continue "flipping my classroom" to maximize learning within my students with technology.
These tools will most definitely help me become a more effective and efficient educator for my students.
These materials I am requesting will allow me to grow professionally in the area of technology. I look forward to how these skills will enable me to be a better guide for my 21st century learners!
