Our school has less each year to spend on library books. We have a very dedicated Library assistant, but lost the actual librarian in our school. The one program I have helped to continue is our Battle of the Books Competition and that is at risk as we do not have a budget to buy the books.
Our school district is now officially the most diverse in the State of Washington.
Our school has a high English Language Population, in fact about 1/3 of the school is supported by this program. We are also a high needs school in that 72% of our school qualifies for free and reduced lunch. Our students take pride in our school and have done well in district level competitions.
My Project
In this project I am requesting multiple copies of award winning books to support this program.
In this environment having good literature for students is essential to building basic reading skills. Each year The Battle of the Books books are decided by the Sasquatch reading award and Young readers choice awards given to literature determined to be exceptionally written. It is these books you would be helping to provide our school.
As I said, we do not have a librarian anymore due to cuts in Education funding.
Without the help of donors like you it is likely that we will not be able to purchase these award winning books and yet another important program will be eliminated. Help our students continue to set goals, dream, and develop a love of reading.
