How do you create a painting without paint? Unfortunately, this is one riddle for which I have found no answer. Far worse, it's a real obstacle my students will be facing this upcoming school year. Please help them to fill up their palettes and follow their creativity, wherever it might take them.
My students are wonderful, hard workers who have grown an incredible amount since I first met them one year ago.
They have come so far in terms of their technical abilities, as well as their creativity. These kids work hard to not only reach, but surpass the expectations I have set for them.
Incredibly, they challenge me every day to be a better teacher and to push myself in the ways I plan and problem solve in the classroom. I have the honor of teaching a great group who do not let the fact that they are under-served and face challenges many kids their age only read about stand in the way of their success.
Needless to say, they certainly deserve access to the basic materials necessary to explore, create, and express.
My Project
My students love to paint! The only problem is they need to have paint to use! After burning through every ounce of our paint supply last year, we are going to begin the upcoming year with next to nothing.
Making matters more difficult, recently my budget was cut in half, leaving me in the position of having to choose between paint and paper. Over the past week, I've spoken with many students so eager to apply all the lessons of last year toward new projects!
Please help make sure my students have the materials necessary to bring their ideas to fruition. They deserve access to the basic supplies necessary to explore their creativity and express themselves visually.
Although the paint I've requested might seem basic or even boring, its impact in my classroom and on my students as artists will be nothing short of extraordinary.
A donation to this project will allow my students to live up to their potential as painters. Freed from the constraints of available supplies, they will be able to enjoy the artistic process of painting, and produce some beautiful work!
