I teach kindergarten at a rural school in Wyoming, where I have fallen in love with my school and the students that I teach.
The families are very close knit in this ranching community and it is not uncommon for one class to stay together from kindergarten to graduation.
My students are eager to learn and are incredibly active. They love to read, to write and to learn through hands-on exploration.
The zest for life in a five year old is truly admirable. When I see the genuine excitement in their eyes when they learn something new, I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that I am in the right place.
My Project
My students need flexible seating including floor seats, ball seats, wobble cushions, pillows and beanbag seats in their classroom, as that is what best practice suggests is the most effective for student learning. I have already received enough seats for part of my class, but my hope is to transform my entire class to flexible seating to provide my students with the best education possible, despite being in such a small community.

Giving the students a choice in where they sit and what kind of seat they will be in, gives them ownership over their learning environment and therefore, of their education as well.
Kindergarten students are not well suited for the typical desks in rows classroom arrangement and I believe it is our duty to provide our students with the most effective, proven learning opportunities possible.
Flexible seating will dramatically impact our classroom in a positive manner and I cannot wait to see the results.
